Pebble Smartwatch for iPhone and Android (Black)
CUSTOMER REVIEW
UPDATE: After 3 months of ownership, I must lower my rating. While the watch is good and has much potential, Pebble support is incredibly poor. I state that it is nonexistent below and I wish there was a better word for how nonexistent. I have entered three support tickets to Pebble support. NONE of the tickets has even been acknowledged. I almost regret purchasing the watch because of the frustration with the lack of communication.
WATCH THE SELLER. The max price of this watch should be $150. This is an item that resellers appear to purchase and then charge more than double the actual price for. If the watch is more than $150, just go to getpebble.com and buy direct.
UPDATE: I have now had the Pebble Smartwatch for about 8 weeks. Here are my observations - firmware version 2. I would still purchase the watch today after my experiences.
The good:
The Pebble is mostly good at doing what it says. It can display any notification from my iPhone, and display weather and other information when running version 2. My experience with battery life is about 5 days because I have several apps sending notifications throughout a typical day. I do like the watch and the potential that is in the watch.
I have silenced almost all notifications on my phone and prefer to receive those on the Pebble. This has made me more productive and increased my iPhone battery life by keeping the screen from being opened by me for every notification.
Unlike the Pebble steel, the original plastic watch can take any appropriately sized strap. I swapped my strap for a quality zulu strap that is much more comfortable and fits my wrist better. there are many choices for an aftermarket strap.
The bad:
Pebble support is nonexistent. I submitted a ticket immediately after upgrading to version 2 about an issue I was experiencing. I have yet to receive a response two weeks later. I ended up solving my issue by resetting my watch to factory settings. I found this solution on Reddit, not the Pebble forums. Be prepared to search non-Pebble forums for answers to any issues you may have. If this seems daunting, do not buy the watch. It seems that users are typically on their own as Pebble does not appear to have a large support staff. Pebble leadership is also not very accomplished at PR or communication, but I understood that going in.
The bluetooth connectivity has been spotty after an upgrade of the iPhone app to version 2.0.1. The watch does not reconnect reliably if you walk out of range with your phone (version 2.0 reconnected every time). To reconnect a simple click of connect to watch is required in the iPhone app. This is mostly an inconvenience, but frustrates me when it happens.
